Three IDOM projects help strengthen the Gambia’s healthcare system
We are collaborating with the Gambian Ministry of Health to transform the country’s healthcare infrastructure by designing three strategic facilities: the National Emergency Treatment Center (NETC), the National Food and Drug Quality Control Laboratory (NFDQCL), and the Biomedical Engineering Unit (BEU).
These projects are part of a program led by the Gambian Ministry of Health and funded by the World Bank to strengthen essential health services. The initiative aims to improve healthcare capacity, preparedness for health emergencies, and the safety of medicines and food.
Located in Farato, the NETC includes observation and intensive care units, training facilities, and specialized laboratories that will improve care for critically ill patients and strengthen the response to epidemics and public health emergencies.
The new national food and drug quality control laboratory provides the country with a new capability: the ability to analyze and certify products locally. This strengthens consumer protection and health oversight.
The Biomedical Engineering Unit will help keep hospitals’ and health centers’ facilities and advanced medical technology operational, which is fundamental to ensuring high-quality diagnoses and treatments in the long term.
