We shared IDOM’s experience in leadership and design excellence at the University of Florida
María Ángeles Sánchez, Architect and Partner at IDOM, took part in an academic event organised by the University of Florida School of Architecture, where she shared with students and faculty some of the principles that have helped establish IDOM as a leading international practice built on technical excellence, leadership and multidisciplinary collaboration.
The visit combined participation in a fourth-year design review with the public lecture “Game Changers in the Architecture Industry: Leadership, Talent Development, and Lessons from Building a Global Practice”, delivered as part of the school’s lecture series. More than 80 students attended the event.
Rather than focusing on specific projects, the presentation explored IDOM’s evolution as an organisation and reflected on the relationship between leadership, professional development and design quality. The lecture addressed topics including the firm’s partnership model, talent development, individual responsibility, interdisciplinary collaboration and the management of teams across diverse international contexts.
Examples of projects delivered by IDOM across different countries and sectors illustrated how a shared culture, centred on client service and underpinned by technical excellence, has supported the organisation’s growth over nearly seven decades.
The discussion that followed prompted particularly strong engagement from both students and faculty, who were keen to learn more about IDOM’s way of working and the career opportunities offered by a multidisciplinary international practice.
