Cereal Innovation Center
The Cereal Innovation Center, promoted and managed by ESPIGA I+D of the Caja Rural de Navarra group, is a facility dedicated to applied research and technological development across the cereal value chain. It is not a production site, but a space designed to strengthen the sector through science, technology, specialized training, and collaboration.
The building is conceived as a compact, clean, and functional volume composed of rectangular and cubic forms that interlock. Its sober façade, free of decorative elements, reinforces a contemporary aesthetic aligned with the technological processes and food-safety research carried out inside. Located within a leisure-oriented industrial zone, it shields itself from the immediate surroundings with opaque ground‑floor façades, while the first floor opens with windows oriented toward the cereal fields and mountains, avoiding exposure to the urban setting.
Organized over two floors, the ground floor contains technical areas, R&D workshops, and the main entrances. The first floor accommodates laboratories, meeting rooms, and offices. Both levels are structured around a landscaped central courtyard that serves as an organizational core, providing natural light, ventilation, and a sense of openness. The ground floor remains closed to the exterior, while the first floor opens in all directions, highlighted by generous north–south windows.
Green roofs and the interior courtyard enhance energy efficiency, reduce solar impact, and create rest areas for users. The design incorporates thermal insulation, airtightness, solar‑control louvers, and VRF aerothermal systems to ensure high energy performance.
