Modernising the irrigation systems of the Orellana Canal

Spain

Irrigation modernization in the Orellana Canal is key to enhancing efficiency and sustainability in agricultural irrigation in Extremadura. The project defines construction, improvement, and renovation solutions for the irrigation infrastructure of the General Irrigators Community, covering an area of over 40,300 hectares on the right bank of the Guadiana River.

The main goal was to improve the transport network and control water consumption for the irrigated crops, thus promoting more efficient water resource management. IDOM’s scope of work included project drafting, environmental impact assessment, and construction management, ensuring a comprehensive modernization of the irrigation system.
