Data network design for Chile’s state railway company (EFE)

Chile

The State Railway Company of Chile (EFE) has embarked on an ambitious modernization process to strengthen and upgrade railway services throughout the country. A key aspect of this modernization is the enhancement of railway communications systems, which are vital for safe and efficient railway operations.

Modernization of Railway Communications Systems

IDOM has provided engineering services for the design of EFE’s new data network, a strategic project for the future of the Chilean railway system. The main goal is the design of a backbone communications network spanning 1,800 km of railway lines.

Key features of the project:

  • Backbone network design: Development of a robust communications infrastructure to support data traffic across the entire railway network.
  • Comprehensive coverage: The new network enables information to be transmitted from any point in the railway system to the relevant control centers.
  • Support for multiple services: The infrastructure is designed to transport all services required by EFE, offering flexibility and scalability.
  • Technological modernization: Implementation of advanced solutions that improve the efficiency, safety, and operational capabilities of the railway system.

IDOM’s involvement in this project significantly contributes to the modernization and digitalization of Chile’s railway sector, bringing technical expertise and experience in data network engineering.
