New Euskotren HQs and Railway Station in Durango

Spain

EuskoTren decided in 2004 to modify the railway line that crossed Durango, dividing the city in two halves. To this end, the existing tracks were replaced by underground tracks. Thus, the need for a new underground railway station arose. Additionally, it was also decided to create a new office building to house the EuskoTren HeadQuarters, as well as a partially-underground commercial centre.

IDOM was included in the working team that Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) presented in the public tender, which finally won. IDOM worked together with ZHA in the Preliminary and Detail Design Projects in the Architectural, M&E and Structural design of the building. Given the ambitious architectural proposals from ZHA, the structural design team from IDOM ADA was in charge of proposing and developing the various supporting structures for each element to a detailed level. IDOM provided technical Assistance during the building process.
