ROTATORY SYSTEMS IN CRYOGENICS

Spain

During the commissioning of the first instrument of the QuiJoTe telescope project carried out by IDOM, the need became apparent to investigate viable alternatives to introduce mobile components in cryogenic environments, to cover the needs demanded by current scientific research, in particular, in the field of astronomical instrumentation.

Led by IDOM, the project was carried out in collaboration with the Canary Islands Astrophysics Institute (IAC) and funded by the Centre for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI).

The crysotat permits analysis of heat extraction through rotating elements under cryogenic conditions.

In order to carry out the experiment, IDOM has designed and manufactured a laboratory cryostat to analyse the heat extraction through rotating elements by means of conduction or radiation. The thermal and mechanical behaviour of special materials in cryogenic conditions (20K) were analyzed, as well as different coatings that minimize heat loss by radiation, etc.
