Salalah seawater desalination plant – 120,000 m³ / day
Oman
The Salalah Independent Water Project (IWP) is a seawater desalination plant using reverse osmosis technology, located in the Dhofar region of Oman, and constructed by a joint venture formed by Abengoa and Fisia Italimpianti.
The plant is designed to produce a maximum of 120,000 m³/day of drinking water. The plant has a submerged seawater intake pipe, complete pretreatment by dissolved air flotation (DAF), and double stage bilayer filtration through open and closed filters. Reverse osmosis occurs in five independent units, with their corresponding energy recovery equipment. Finally, the permeate water is remineralized by calcite beds and stored in a concrete tank of 90,000 m³.
IDOM has been contracted to carry out basic and detailed engineering of the fields of process, mechanics, piping, civil works, electricity, and instrumentation and control.
