Dismantling and decommissioning of José Cabrera nuclear power plant
Spain
IDOM carried out the technical supervision of activities related to the commissioning of key systems such as Fire Protection and HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), which are essential for the safe and efficient execution of the Decommissioning and Dismantling Plan (Plan de Desmantelamiento y Clausura, PDC) of the José Cabrera Nuclear Power Plant, also known as Zorita. This work focused on the technical oversight of these systems, which are fundamental to ensuring proper conditions throughout the dismantling process.
The project was structured into two main areas of action: a conventional area, covering buildings and facilities without radioactive elements, and a nuclear area, which included zones with active components such as the Reactor Building, the Auxiliary Building, the gas treatment system, and radioactive waste storage facilities. The supervision tasks included monitoring the execution of civil, mechanical, electrical, radiological, and testing works related to the Fire Protection and HVAC systems, as well as coordinating contractors, reviewing technical documentation, planning activities, controlling materials, and verifying certifications associated with these systems.
Thanks to this experience, IDOM strengthens its position in nuclear engineering and the decommissioning of complex facilities.
