Technical assistance for the supervision of the construction works of cell No. 6 at the Al Ghabawi landfill (Amman, Jordan),

Jordan

The Municipality of Amman (GAM) handles over 4,000 tons of municipal solid waste per day at the Al Ghabawi landfill. At this site, the waste is disposed in a controlled manner in bottom-lined cells, to prevent soil contamination, and then compacted in layers. These cells are safely filled to their maximum capacity, then capped and degassed.

Since mid-2022, IDOM has been providing technical assistance to the supervision team of GAM in areas such as control of the installation of geosynthetics, construction quality control, analysis and evaluation of changes proposed by the contractor, commissioning, etc. IDOM also prepares periodic reports to inform the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the funding agency for the project, about the progress and adequacy of the works.

The first phase of the construction (first half of cell 6) is ready for acceptance since end of May 2023, while the works continue, and the whole project is expected to be completed by the end of August.
