Gran Canaria airport terminal extension
Spain
The Gran Canaria airport terminal extension project addresses the rising demand for passengers and cargo at Spain’s fifth largest airport. With over 10.3 million passengers, 37.5 million kg of cargo, and 114,355 operations annually, this expansion is part of the Master Plan to boost capacity, improve safety, and enhance service quality.
Besides increasing handling capacity of the airport, security and the quality of services offered have also been improved
The project involves expanding the terminal building in three directions: northwards, adding 14,600 m² and a new pier with several boarding bridges; westwards, enlarging the check-in hall and constructing two new elevated access roads over 6,700 m²; and southwards, adding 5,200 m² to the existing facility. Designed by UTE Lamela-Paymacotas-GOC, the works are carried out while keeping the airport fully operational.
For project management, technical assistance, supervision, and quality control, AENA has entrusted IDOM, through the UTE ATCV NUEVO EDIFICIO TERMINAL GANDO, ensuring efficient and safe management of this ambitious Gran Canaria airport terminal expansion, which is essential for the economic and tourism development of the Canary Islands.
