IDOM is developing a road project in the east of Paraguay between the cities of Pedro Juan Caballero, Capitán Bado, Itanará and Ypejhú, in the Departments of Amambay and Canindeyu. The project aims to improve and upgrade 200 km of road, divided into two sections, in a north south direction. The route is linked, in its entirety, to the border with Brazil. Given its unique importance and border demarcation with the neighbouring country, this is considered to be a project of national interest.
At present, these roads are dirt roads with serious accessibility problems, particularly in the rainy season. The purpose of this project is to reconvert these roads into first-class national roads, with a design speed of up to 100/km/hr., resulting in a significant improvement in transportation in this area of the country.
In November 2017, IDOM presented the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) of Paraguay with all the Technical, Economic and Environmental Feasibility Study. All these documents were produced during the six-month period foreseen in the contract. Currently, the works corresponding to the Final Design of the project are being developed.
