La Rábida Cogeneration II (80 MW): Advanced engineering for reliable steam supply at CEPSA refinery

Spain

La Rábida Cogeneration II, located within CEPSA’s refinery complex in Huelva, is an 80 MW combined cycle plant designed to ensure a reliable steam supply for key industrial processes. This La Rábida Cogeneration II provides 43 kg/cm²g of superheated steam for the AROMAX unit and 19 kg/cm²g of saturated steam for ERTISA, integrating a GE-PG6111FA natural gas turbine, a two-pressure level heat recovery steam generator, and a back-pressure steam turbine. IDOM developed the detailed engineering and site management, ensuring operational efficiency and reliability.

The project’s main goal is to provide a reliable supply of 43 kg/cm² g superheated steam for the correct operation of the new AROMAX unit’s catalyst, and 19 kg/cm² g saturated steam for ERTISA (a CEPSA-owned company).

The main installations of the project are a 82.4 MWe (gross output) cogeneration plant , composed by one GE-PG6111FA gas turbine (using natural gas as fuel), a Heat Recovery Steam Generator and a back pressure steam turbine.

IDOM has developed the detailed engineering and project management services.
