Alger Metro stations
Algeria
Algiers Metro Line 1, currently in operation, is 17.58 km long and comprises 18 stations with 115-metre-long side platforms. The Aïn Naâdja–Baraki extension, which is currently under construction, adds a new 6.2 km section that will connect emerging districts to the city centre through six new stations.
The extension will also provide a connection between the metro network and the SNTF (Société Nationale des Transports Ferroviaires) railway system at Aïn Naâdja Station. Among the most distinctive features of the route are the crossing of the Oued El Harrach valley, where the line runs on a viaduct, and its passage over the Radiale de Baraki motorway.
IDOM was responsible for the architectural design, preliminary engineering design and interior design of the extension. The scope of work included route definition, urban integration, impact assessments, demand studies, and the analysis of development requirements for the Algiers metro network, taking into account both the existing infrastructure and its future expansions.
The project includes the architectural design of the six stations along the extension. Four of them are underground, while the remaining two are located on the viaduct. One of the elevated stations has been conceived as a major intermodal transport hub, providing integration with rail services.
The project scope also encompasses the design of the main railway systems, including track superstructure, power supply, railway signalling, telecommunications, centralised control systems and a range of electromechanical installations.
This development will strengthen mobility across the Algiers metropolitan area by extending the network’s coverage and improving connectivity between different modes of transport.
