In response to sustained growth in air traffic, the San José del Cabo International Airport project involved the comprehensive expansion and reconfiguration of Terminal 2, transforming it into a modern and efficient U-shaped terminal. The development introduced new baggage handling systems (BHS), premium commercial areas, and enhanced access and parking facilities, with the aim of delivering a world-class airport experience centred on passenger comfort, technology and operational efficiency.

From the earliest stages of the project, a clear vision was established, focused on functionality, sustainability and operational performance. Client and user expectations were aligned through well-defined design criteria, ensuring compliance with both local and international regulations. Close coordination between the architectural and engineering disciplines minimised conflicts and rework, optimising programme delivery and resource allocation. At the same time, agile decision-making processes and continuous design reviews were implemented, supported by ongoing collaboration with the client throughout the project.

These strategies enabled the delivery of an integrated design solution that maximises value for money by combining quality, innovation and rigorous cost control. A sustainability-led approach and strong multidisciplinary integration ensured an efficient, adaptable and future-ready facility aligned with international standards. The result is a proposal that enhances the passenger experience while improving the overall performance of airport operations.

Today, the international Terminal 2 operates as a unified facility resulting from the expansion and reconfiguration works, organised across four levels. The new terminal provides a coherent and contemporary architectural identity, strengthening the airport’s capacity to accommodate future growth while consolidating its role as one of the principal gateways to the Baja California Sur region.
