Basurto Hospital Outpatient Clinics
Spain
Basurto Hospital is a major landmark in the city. Much loved by the people of Bilbao, it provides pleasant spaces for patients and their families through its gardens and tree-lined outdoor areas.
The new outpatient clinics building has been conceived in response to the need to expand overstretched facilities while also revitalising the hospital complex as a whole.
IDOM has designed a facility with significant outpatient care capacity, while also enabling healthcare delivery beyond its physical boundaries through telemedicine. This focus on providing more effective and preventive care lies at the heart of the project and will help Basurto Hospital evolve into a more specialised healthcare facility.
The proposal’s flexible design makes it possible to implement a new hospital model: the High-Resolution Centre. Under this approach, patients are seen by a physician and, on the same day, undergo all the necessary diagnostic tests, allowing them to return home with a treatment plan or, where appropriate, having already received treatment.
This results in shorter waiting times for diagnosis and treatment, as well as fewer journeys to the hospital, delivering clear benefits for patients.
