Brazil. Award for Urban Rehabilitation

Work and live in the center of Manaus

The Master Plan for the Rehabilitation of the centre of the City of Manaus has been awarded the Prize for Best Practices by the Brazilian Council of Architecture and Urbanism of Pernambuco (CAU/PE) and the United Nations Program for Urban Settlements (UN-Habitat).

The award was presented to Rebeca Vieira de Mello, on behalf of IDOM, in the Brazilian City of Olinda during the Today (HOJE) International Forum: Implementing Sustainable Cities. The jury was impressed by the approach of the consortium IDOM/Polis Institute of Brazil/Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and rewarded the excellence of this work which is committed to improving the quality of life of the inhabitants, without neglecting the economic activity, the preservation of built heritage, or the environment.

The project aims to recover the urban water front of the Negro River which runs alongside the city of Manaus, attracting new inhabitants and investors, and further boosting the Capital of the State of Amazonas, the main economic center of northern Brazil.
