Chihuahua has entrusted IDOM with the creation of its strategic vision

2018 IEM Congress

The city of Chihuahua and its metropolitan area are experiencing a key moment in its history, the result of an industrial and economic development by a group of entrepreneurs over many decades. Their vision was a region based on manufacturing. Thanks to this industrial nature with a vocation to innovate, the IEM Chihuahua Congress (International Congress of Entrepreneurs) is held every year, a space for reflection where authorities, experts and businessmen from the North of Mexico and the South of the United States can meet.

Its latest edition at the end of 2018, had a record of participation with more than 1,600 attendees. The commencement of Chihuahua Futura – the strategy of competitive technological specialization of the city and its metropolitan area – was presented by Marta Álvarez, a partner director of IDOM and an expert in competitive transformation and innovation.

In the words of Marta, Chihuahua has to look to the areas of specialization in which it wants to position itself in the world as an innovative, scientific and business reference, without renouncing its industrial history, while promoting the development of radically different and unique projects, which will be a driver of change.

In addition to Marta Álvarez, other speakers were able to further examine the trends that will affect the current patterns of industrial development, including: Peter Diamandis, founder of Singularity University and entrepreneur expert in disruptive technologies, spoke on “Exponential Technology: Innovation and disruption on the road ahead”; Aitor Cobanera, expert in technological innovation and director of technology and innovation at SPRI, spoke about the “Model of industrial and technological transformation of the Basque Country”, as an example of change in a matter of 25 years and; José Oriol Bosh Par, CEO of Grupo Bolsa Mexicana de Valores (BMV), presented the opportunities of the BMV for Chihuahua companies.

A Success Story

The economy of state is showing great robustness, with levels of full employment and sustained growth in sectors such as tourism, mining, agro-industry, automotive, electrical and electronic, life sciences, ICT and aerospace.

In Chihuahua, 97% of the Dream Liner Boing 787's electrical system is designed and manufactured and supplied to the Honeywell assembly plant in Phoenix, Arizona, where aircraft turbines are assembled and verified. Local companies such as EZ Air, Zodiac Aerospace and SOISA design and manufacture seats for major commercial airlines.
