Increasing security for air-cargo

In 2013, when IDOM received an invitation to participate in the EUROSKY project, a research project to develop a Single European Secure Air-cargo Space, we understood it as an opportunity to participate on the front line of R&D in the industry.

The European Commission, which is partly-funding the project to the tune of €10 million, is counting on the participation of 21 elite companies from 10 different countries. The different partners work in various area of specialization.

After an carrying out an analysis of the different processes and integrating the information in the different databases involved in air-cargo, IDOM developed a prototype of the Risk Assessment Device (RAD), a device which estimates the risk of explosives and suggests the type of inspection necessary, as well as other mitigation measures.

This prototype has been tested in the Cargo Terminal of WFS (Worldwide Flight Services) at the airport of Barcelona. The initial expectations have been exceeded, and given that the reaction of both the aerospace industry and the Spanish State Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has been positive, at present the possibility of registering the patent is being considered.
