PRISMA, awarded by Esri as the most innovative project
The PRISMA project (Port Real-time Information for Smart Management), developed at the Port of Seville, has been recognized by Esri with the award for the most innovative project, highlighting the work carried out in the field of geographic information systems (GIS) applied to port management.
PRISMA is an initiative funded by the European Union aimed at advancing the digitalization of port operations through the development of a centralized and intelligent information management platform. This platform seeks to improve coordination among the different stakeholders within the port community—such as authorities, logistics operators, customs, and security forces—by enabling a connected, efficient environment focused on real-time decision-making.
In this context, the project has reached a significant milestone by becoming the first case in which an Esri partner integrates its technology with Microsoft Fabric, combining advanced geospatial analytics capabilities with a next-generation data platform.
This integration makes it possible to incorporate the geospatial dimension directly into data analytics environments, enabling the identification of patterns, relationships, and insights that are not visible in traditional models, thereby enhancing the capacity for analysis and planning of port operations.
PRISMA also addresses key sector challenges through the implementation of advanced systems such as a Port Management System (PMS) and integrated Vessel Traffic Management and Information Systems (VTMIS), which transform data from sensors, AIS, radar, and meteorological systems into real-time alerts, indicators, and dashboards.
Furthermore, the project contributes to the evolution of the Port of Seville towards a Smart Port model, aligned with international standards, through process digitalization, the integration of technologies such as IoT and artificial intelligence, and the development of a shared data environment. Among its key capabilities are the creation of a single management portal and a digital twin of the port, which enhance asset monitoring, logistics management, and environmental impact tracking.
This progress reinforces the Port of Seville’s position as a benchmark in port digitalization and highlights the potential of advanced analytics and location intelligence as key drivers for operational efficiency, sustainability, and sector competitiveness.
