The strategic role of dams in water security in the MENA region

IDOM participated in the MENA Dams Conference 2026, which was held on June 3 and 4 in Abu Dhabi, UAE. This is a leading regional forum focused on dam infrastructure and its role in water security, energy, and climate resilience.

The conference brought together government entities, utilities, developers, consultants, and technology providers to address key challenges such as water scarcity, flood control, renewable energy integration, and long-term climate resilience.

The event also served as a strategic platform for networking with industry leaders and exploring the growing investment in dam infrastructure across the region, aimed at enhancing water storage, food security, and national resilience.

During the event, IDOM actively participated in discussions covering a wide range of topics, including:

  • Climate-resilient dam design and flood/drought management.

  • Smart dam technologies, digital monitoring, and predictive analytics.

  • Operations, maintenance, and modernization of existing infrastructure.

  • Integration of dams within broader water resource and distribution systems.

  • Sustainable financing approaches, including PPP models.

The conference underscored the swift transformation of the dam sector in the MENA region, fueled by ambitious national initiatives centered on water security, infrastructure development, and sustainability objectives. With significant participation from institutions and experts in government, engineering, and academia, the event established itself as a pivotal platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and identifying innovative water infrastructure solutions.

At IDOM, we reaffirm our commitment to the sustainable development of water infrastructure through a multidisciplinary approach, innovative solutions, and long-term partnerships that promote resilient, future-ready systems in the MENA region.
