Innovation in the Water Sector

TWO IDOM PROJECTS ARE PRESENTED AT THE "XI SPANISH CONFERENCE ON DAMS"

From June 26 to 29, the XI Spanish Dams Conference, organized by the Spanish National Committee of Large Dams SPANCOLD, was held in León, Spain. Topics related to climate change, reservoirs and water governance, renewable energies, and cutting-edge techniques concerning the sector at national and international level were discussed. IDOM actively participated in the conference with a dissemination poster and a round table discussion to share with other experts, the firm’s know-how and projects.

The presentation, led by our colleague José Luis Palencia, dealt with the project developed by IDOM on the Island of El Hierro, where a power generation plant has been built, using a mix of hydroelectric and wind generation that ensures the energy self-sufficiency of the island even when there is no wind. Given its innovative and topical nature, the project was well received among the attendees, and was generally considered one of the best presentations given.

In addition, our colleague Daniel José Rodríguez disseminated information and presented a poster on the governance of water and its sustainable use on a social, economic and environmental level. This project is innovative in that it includes the three branches of sustainability, balancing the uses of a reservoir and its carbon footprint, emphasizing the importance of good water management as a driving force for society.
