Mittelsbüren Combined Cycle Power Plant (450 MW): Advanced engineering and energy flexibility in Germany

Germany

The Mittelsbüren Combined Cycle Power Plant, with a capacity of 450 MW, stands as a benchmark of advanced engineering in Bremen, Germany. This Mittelsbüren Combined Cycle Power Plant, developed by Cobra in consortium with GE, features a single-shaft 109FB block, a GE PG9 FB gas turbine, a 109A-17 steam turbine, a GE 450H generator, a heat recovery boiler, and complete auxiliary systems. The cooling system uses river water towers, and its design allows for wind energy integration, ensuring maximum operational flexibility and low CO₂ emissions. IDOM provided the detailed engineering and supported ACS-COBRA with permitting, procurement, supervision, and commissioning.

The power plant generates 450 MW and comprises of one 9FB gas turbine, one GE 450H Generator, one 109A-17 steam turbine, HRSG, plus balance of plant equipment necessary for plant operation. The cooling of the plant is made through a cooling tower receiving river water.

The design includes the possibility of integrating wind energy. In the absence of wind, the gas plant must reach the full load regime in the shortest possible time and with the minimum CO2 emission.

IDOM has completed the detailed engineering of the plant and has supported ACS-COBRA in permitting, procurement, assembly supervision and commissioning activities.
