IDOM will prepare Land Use Plans and Climate Change Studies for six tourist districts in Panama

At an event attended by Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, President of the Republic of Panama, the government gives the green light to the plans

 

On October 21, 2022, the go ahead was given for the preparation of the Land Management Plans and Climate Change Scenario Studies of Pedasí, Bocas del Toro, Boquete, Tierras Altas, Soná and Taboga; to be carried out by the consortium made up of IDOM and SUMA in an event that was attended by the President of the Republic of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen.

This project is through a financing operation approved at the end of 2019 by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), for the execution of the Integral Urban Development Program for Cities with a Tourism Focus. The Panama Tourism Authority (ATP), with the support of the Ministry of Housing and Land Management (MIVIOT) will be responsible for its execution.

The plans will allow the districts to responsibly manage the use of the areas, to improve the efficiency of the use of resources which will benefit and promote sustainable tourism, while preserving cultural resources and improving natural conditions and the landscape. This is the first time that six Territorial Management Plans have been executed in parallel, highlighting the tourism potential of each district. The plans have an investment of B/. 2.3 million from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
