Aconcagua Cogeneration (77 MWe): Advanced engineering for efficient power and steam generation at Concón refinery

Chile

The Aconcagua Cogeneration plant, located next to the Concón Refinery in the Valparaíso region of Chile, is a 77 MWe simple cycle facility producing 125 t/h of superheated steam at 43 bar. This Aconcagua Cogeneration project, ENAP’s flagship initiative launched in 2014, features a GE 6FA gas turbine and a Nooter-Eriksen heat recovery boiler, enabling the refinery to replace its gas boilers and export electricity to the national grid, while ensuring 100% operational backup in case of grid failure. The project is distinguished by its innovative 16″ diameter, 2.1 km-long steam interconnection rack. IDOM provided basic and detailed engineering as well as technical assistance during construction, commissioned by Duro Felguera (EPC).

As a differentiating element of the project, the Interconnection Rack with the refinery stands out (steam collector of 16 “in diameter and 2.1 km in length), whose route runs through the refinery and through public areas.

On behalf of the company Duro Felguera, contracted by ENAC for the construction of the project in EPC mode, IDOM has carried out basic and detailed engineering, as well as technical assistance during construction.
