Al Dur II IWPP Combined Cycle Power Plant – 1,500 MW

Bahrain

Awarded by EWA (Electricity and Water Authority) to ACWA POWER, the Al Dur II IWPP project consists of a Combined Cycle Power Plant and a Desalination Plant in the Southern Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain. It occupies an area of approximately 192,500 m² immediately south of the existing Al Dur I IWPP plant, on the Arabian Gulf coastal strip.

The combined cycle plant has a 2-block configuration, each in 2x2x1 multi-axis mode, with a total generation capacity of 1,500 MWe. Both gas and steam turbines are supplied by SIEMENS, with gas turbines (SGT5-4000F), single fuel using natural gas. It can operate in both Single Cycle mode and Combined Cycle mode, and the main cooling is carried out by cooling towers using seawater.

The plant has a turboexpander that takes advantage of the high pressure of the natural gas available in the supply network to generate electricity while reducing the gas pressure to the requirements established by SIEMENS for their turbines.

ACWA POWER awarded SEPCOIII the construction project of the Power Plant under an EPC arrangement, for which IDOM has developed the complete engineering (basic and detailed).
