González Byass winery

Spain

The González Byass winery, founded in 1835, acquired Finca Constancia in 2001 for the production of wine according to the traditional Bordeaux concept of the Château.

Gonzalez Byass contracted IDOM for the architectural design, engineering, construction and commissioning of this avant-garde winery, which includes ageing, bottling, storage and shipping facilities.

The type of contract chosen by González Byass for this project was turnkey – Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) under the PMG modality.

This project was the start of other projects with Gonzalez Byass, such as the Beronia Rueda Winery (Valladolid) in 2015, designed to produce 50,000 cases of wine per year of quality white wine and oriented towards wine tourism, where a very permeable layout was proposed towards the landscape and between the visitor and production areas, separated in turn into different levels semi-buried in the built volume.

The new Beronia Ollauri Winery (La Rioja), intended for Premium wines, is a reference building for wine tourism and in terms of wine production technologies and for its LEED Gold Certification, further highlighting its environmental commitment. The design of the building, with a careful integration into the landscape, almost entirely buried, takes advantage of the thermal insulation provided by the terrain.
