H2 energy production isolated site: Efficient and renewable power supply for off-grid facilities

Spain

The H2 energy production isolated site project, delivered by IDOM, provides renewable electricity for a fully off-grid pharmaceutical facility, ensuring a supply of 500 kW for a minimum of two years. This H2 energy production isolated site uses renewable hydrogen as feedstock, with a nominal consumption of 400 kg/day and approximately 60% efficiency, also enabling hot water generation. The scope includes main power system design, on-site H2 storage, and integration of the fuel cell—supported by detailed engineering and procurement management.

Renewable hydrogen has been the solution chosen for the electrical supply of facility, at an off-grid location, for a minimum initial period of 2 years.

The project developed by IDOM has allowed the Confidential Client, from the pharmaceutical sector, to produce 500 kW of electrical power (and potentially hot water) for their facilities. H2 is the raw material used, with a nominal consumption of 400 kg/day. The project, with an approximate efficiency rate of 60%, has the following scope:

  • Design of the main electrical supply system using H2.
  • H2 on-site storage.
  • Integration of the fuel cell in the design, both at the level of auxiliary systems and implementation.

The services provided by IDOM in this Project include conceptual design, market research, detailed engineering and procurement management.
