The foundation stone of India International Convention & Expo Center is laid

THE PRIME MINISTER, SHRI NARENDRA MODI, LAYS THE STONE

On September 20, the laying of the foundation stone of the India International Convention & Expo Centre was celebrated in New Delhi. The event was of such caliber that it counted on the participation, as protagonist, of the country’s prime minister. Narendra Modi declared: ” This project will emerge as a centre of energy of 80 crore youth. It is not just a convention and expo centre, but a vibrant centre for domestic and international business. It will be like a mini city within Delhi, there’ll be convention halls, expo halls, meeting halls, hotels, market, offices and several other facilities within the campus.”

With a construction budget of more than 400 million dollars, the IICC will cover 90 hectares close to the Indira Gandhi Airport in New Delhi, and the entire operation will have more than 2.5 million square meters, including a centre for conventions, five exhibition halls, an arena and a mixed-use area that integrates hotels, offices, apartments and commercial spaces.

The IDOM proposal was awarded the open international tender convened in 2017. The scope of work developed so includes the integral drafting of the projects, the preparation of the necessary documentation for the tender of the entire building, and the urban development of the complex. Currently, IDOM is providing technical assistance for the execution works of the first of the two phases of work, whose completion is scheduled for December 2019.

The integration of the project in the physical and cultural environment and its sustainability will be key elements of the process, as the project aims to obtain the platinum rating of the Indian Green Building Council. In the words of the Prime Minister: “IICC would reflect India’s economic progress, rich cultural heritage, and our consciousness towards environment protection.”
